Cost effective ways to enforce security policy

Being able to carry away security elements (i.e. configuration, certificates,...) when users leave their computers is arguably the most critical policy for an organization. But what’s the associated cost of it. Well, it doesn’t have to be expensive.

TheGreenBow IPSec VPN client supports USB Stick, USB Token or Smartcard as a mean to increase identify authentication, to enforce security policy while keeping it simple for users and IT managers.

Features like "AutoDetect USB Stick" and "AutoOpen VPN Tunnels when plug in" make it easy for end users to adopt security policies. Remember the most costly security policies are those never used by employees.

On the management side, computers can be prepared from a "master ghost disk" without security elements on it and dozen of USB sticks can be pre-configured in a single plug in and a single click. See also USB Stick feature.

USB Stick, Portable with strong security

An USB stick is an USB flash drive with the size of your car key. All formats works (e.g. SD, MS, SM, MMC, CF, …) You can find USB Sticks in any electronic retail stores (around 0.3$/Mb) and they are becoming common tools for day to day employees.

The USB Stick feature in TheGrenBow VPN Client allows a user to encrypt and store VPN tunnel configurations and VPN security elements on a portable USB drive.

That way no tunnel can be opened without the USB Stick. The security information stored on USB stick works with your PC only. If stick is lost, no one can use it on another computer.

USB Stick or USB Token. What fits your need ?

With USB Stick feature no tunnel can be opened without the USB Stick and security elements it contains can’t be used on any other PC. It is meant to allow users to leave their computer without the fear that security elements might be used or stolen. Useful in Contact Centers, IT computer room, Data Center, any offices with open space layout, ...

The USB Token can be also a stick memory or a smartcard. However, the security elements stored on the USB Token is protected with a PIN code that users have to enter each time the USB token in plugged in. Therefore the USB Token can be used on any computers to set up VPN tunnels without having to reconfigure each time. This is requested by our customers who have shared computers (i.e. might be in data centers or large IT computer room) and staff can set up VPN tunnels on any computers just by pluging in the USB Token. USB Token is available in TheGreenBow IPSec VPN Client 3.0.
